Code Of Conduct For Educators

  • Pitlochry Educators have the RIGHT

    • to be respected for their status as qualified educators and professionals

    • to have the support of Pitlochry’s parent body

    • to have the support of Pitlochry’s school management team

    • to have representation on Pitlochry’s Governing Body

    • to educate without disruption

    • to educate within a classroom/school that is stimulating to the learners and that is functioning effectively

    • to work in a safe, secure, health conducive and hygienic school environment

    • to be involved in problem-solving sessions with regard to matters pertaining to school life, through their brainstorming during Grade meetings, followed by the Grade co-ordinators’ report-backs which culminate in decision making at staff meetings or (if very serious) at Governing Body meetings

    • to be remunerated fairly and in line with designated responsibilities

    • to privacy in off duty hours

    • to exercise disciplinary action, within the bounds of the school’s rules and regulations and within the boundaries of the South African Schools’ Act of 1996

    • to request access to interpretation, should the need arise, in communication in a language other than that of their mother tongue
       

  • Pitlochry Educators have the RESPONSIBILITY

    • to adhere to the Code of Conduct as stated by the South African Council of Educators (official teacher registering body)

    • to behave in a professional manner, at all times when dealing with learners, fellow staff members and parents

    • to be punctual and to regularly report for duty

    • to respect the diverse cultures, religions and languages within our school

    • to ensure the safety of all learners during school hours, co-curricular activities and whilst on excursions

    • to always retain their child centred approach and thus endeavour to not disturb or disadvantage our learners through the exercising of ‘labour rights’

    • to respect all persons and property

      • ‘Teachers are reservoirs from which,

      • through the process of education,

      • students draw the water of life’

  • to work towards promoting regular and open channels of  communication between home and school

  • to encourage and promote parental and teacher participation in the affairs of the school

  • to abide by the codes, rules, regulations and procedures set out by the school and KwaZulu Natal Department of Education and Culture

  • to be answerable to, and provide reasonable explanations for disciplinary actions to any concerned parties

  • to cultivate a co-operative, caring and calm atmosphere in their classrooms which lends itself to effective teaching and learning to work out a package deal that will cater for all the needs  of all learners in the class as EVERY CHILD has the right to a GOOD EDUCATION.
